Soon, Wrexham residents will be able to have a Treat Yo Self day at a new park.
Rob McElhenney has just given his BFF Ryan Reynolds the ultimate 47th birthday gift by naming a park after him in the Welsh town that's home to the football club they co-own. And to help deliver the surprise, Rob utilized the help of someone very familiar with all things parks: Chris Pratt.
In the video shared to Instagram Oct. 23, the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia alum sits down with the Parks and Recreation alum Chris and, after a funny exchange where Chris bit in which the Marvel star alludes to not following Rob on social media and therefore not knowing about his and Ryan's escalating epic birthday gifts for each other, the comedian presents his plan, saying, "This year, my idea involves a park..."
To which the Guardians of the Galaxy star replies, "Oh! Oh... Because I was on P—"
The NBC sitcom's quintessential theme music then cuts the actor off, as a video montage of Wrexham plays and Rob announces via a voiceover, "Introducing the Ryan Rodney Reynolds Memorial Park in Wrexham, Wales."
That's right, for those who may have thought this was an earnest gift, Rob is building a memorial park on a historical site in Wrexham in honor of his friend and business partner. And while the park is still in development, the 46-year-old promises it will boast open green spaces, pop-up restaurants, movie screenings, green-colored light posts, in honor of Ryan's movie The Green Lantern, benches "for old guys to swing on" and a statue "that may or may not look like Ryan."
In fact, the project already has its own website, with full details available at ParksAndWrex.co.uk.
Of course, such birthday teasing keeps in line with the precedent Ryan and his wife Blake Lively have set since tying the knot in 2012, with the two always cracking jokes at the other's expense.
Though when it came to his wife's birthday in August, this year Ryan—who shares daughters James, 8, Inez, 6, and Betty, 3, as well as a fourth child, welcomed in February, with the Gossip Girl actress—kept it shockingly sincere.
"The only thing irrevocably mine in the world is the love and appreciation and awe I feel for this person," the Deadpool actor captioned his Aug. 25 post, which featured a carousel of images of the couple. "Witnessing her life is something I couldn't take for granted if I tried. And believe me, I try. Happy Birthday, @blakelively. You hung the damn moon.
